Have you ever had a moment where you wanted to say something using an emoji and there wasn’t any that could describe it perfectly? Remember the time we had to beg companies to add those emojis and all that.
Welcome to Ethmoji!
Where you have all the freedom to create your own customized, provably unique digital collectible! Time to unleash your inner moji fever and get brewing.
How to get started
At first, it looks like any other regular emoji, but scratch the surface to find out why we’re raving about it. Every Ethmoji has its layers; there’s a base layer, a set of eyes, a nose, hair and other accessories that wish to add. You compose an Ethmoji by assembling these layers together, much similar to an avatar creation. When you’re done and satisfied with what you have created and wish to win your cool creation now, you pay royalties to each of the owners of the various layers in your composition.
For e.g., this is Mony. A cute little purple blob that was created by Dylan Field for his grandmother.
Mony consists of layers. When Mony was born, the creator paid a royalty to each of the layer owners.
More importantly, once when someone creates Mony, you can’t replicate it. A snapshot or hash is posted on the Ethereum blockchain this ensures uniqueness of every single Ethmoji displayed. But on the downside, you can’t change your Ethmoji either once you have created it.
Soo… how does this help you earn money you ask?
Once you’re done building your moji, you can either choose to sell it OR you can make that your own avatar. You give it a name and make it your own.
So while you’re composing you might see that there are some layers that are locked. So unlike other games where you pay to use that feature and that’s pretty much it; what Ethmoji does is that once you pay for it, now you own it and you can sell it to other people on the blockchain.
Now if I were to use a layer that has been bought by you, I would pay YOU a royalty for it. It’s basically unlocking a layer for the whole community. But here’s the thing, you get to decide what the royalty price would be and you gotta be careful with that because if its too high then no one would be interested in buying. So, don’t let greed come into play when you’re deciding upon its price.
Relatively still new on the block, they plan to expand further which will give you more advantages. New layers, wider options to choose from, more integrations (which will allow them to use on other platforms and not merely limited to Ethmoji only!), competitions where you can win cool layers and royalty trackers to know who’s using your layer to compose their Ethmoji.
What makes it STAND out?
It all based on the basic principles of blockchain and works on smart contracts much like any other collectible. But this one’s powerful for the following reason.
You might have noticed that whenever you make a profile, you are required to provide them with some information from your accounts; be it your Facebook, Google or any other form of identification. But your identities over these platforms are far less unified. You might be a Kate on Facebook and Katherine on Google.
No project has figured out the unified identity yet but as trivial as it sounds, a few emojis on the Ethereum blockchain are proving to do so quite well.
And this is only the beginning, we can’t wait to see what more they have to offer! We know the team at OpenSea likely has bigger plans than we anticipate for the projects.
