No to Hetronormativity and No to the Gender Binary in Innovation and Tech.
The portrait of a Silicon Valley founder as a young and male person is finally coming to an end. But, just as it is, things are about to radically transform. What is this shift? Let’s find out.
Crowdfunding, investment appraisal, startup tech, future needs, possibilities and consumer tastes are about to change. We are standing at boats on a harbor that will take us to the new age and thought in human history from this point ahead.
It needs a big leap of faith, not just of men, women and children, but, of every single person who wants to survive the chaos of the new land.
The question is, are women keeping up with the change? No we are not implying any lewd thing about women and change, history is proof that women have always given their A game to change, they have been the face, mouth and feet of it.
Whereas, its the men who are slow to adapt, (Perhaps, because they are given it all so easily and without any labels and taboos.) But, male investors swoon over male driven startups, in male driven economies, selling male-centric products through male oriented advertisements and promotions.
However, thanks to the evolution of ideas, we now know that things can not be seen in a gendered binary. We now know that heterosexuality is not ‘normality’ Normality is nothing but a false idea of human living standards, A MYTH.
Last year, Female founders received only 2% of venture capital funds (that were so-called available to all and ‘based on merit’) in the United States. The rate is growing, changes in the social structure and acceptance of liberties (sexual orientation, gender subscription, ideological, religious and economic) will take time to translate into these economies.
But, just as and when they adapt, things in the world will change and start to happen differently. Women, or any minority this bothered and troubled, can not afford the risk of being left behind.
We can not have yet another male-dominant, hetronormative, conservative, racist and closed industry in the name of innovation.
Yes, we love technology and we love it even more when it improves. But, we can not afford the exhaustion of making the same mistakes over and over again, first suffering from them, then struggling to adapt and fix them. It takes the kind of time we do not have.
We need better systems. For that people need to be active!
Instead of fixing the errors of the machine, we need to fix the machine. No change can happen, until the people of this ideological Diaspora show up onto the massive ecosphere of global startup industry and community. We need to bring out the next Google, Facebook and what not. The next IoT wonder, the next electric car, the next Elon Musk, Steve Jobs and Warren Buffet should be female, or at least beyond the hetronormativity and the gender binary, if we are to change the scope of this world. Are we ready for it? To give it what it takes? Or do we believe in remedy and not in prevention and pre-planning?
