The Joyous Union of Bitcoin and Mobile Phones

Cryptocurrency and smartphones are married to each other whether we like it or not. One is the first successfully implemented form of digital hard money and the other is a mini-supercomputer in your pocket. It makes sense why two futuristic technologies would eventually join hands.

The seamless integration of crypto into smartphones is exactly what the SIKURPhone (read: Secure Phone) is all about. Although we have told you about crypto-supported smartphones before, none of them have been as innovative as the SIKURPhone (neither have they been so badly named.)

This device is a successor to the 2016 GranitePhone – the supposed world’s most secure smartphone. But this time, there’s a crypto twist in the mix.

The company embraced the blockchain trends and added advanced crypto functionality into the device by integrating a cold storage wallet. So you can keep all your cryptocurrency on the phone and carry it with you wherever you want. With this you can track your current balance, store currencies on SIKUR’s cloud, check the pricing for different cryptocurrencies, or read the crypto-related news in a special newsfeed space.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. Why would anyone want to store sensitive financial data on a smartphone, a device that’s usually so prone to being hacked or misplaced? Well, that brings us to the extensive security that the SIKURPhone has in it:

The Unhackable Phone

The company gave their devices to HackerOne, a company that is famous for testing vulnerabilities in software, to see if they could expose any problems and hack the device. Long story short, they tried for 2 months and failed. That should tell you just how secure your crypto-monies are going to be!

Other than that, the device has advanced remote wipe features so in the event that you lose your SIKURPhone or it gets stolen, you can completely remove any traces of your information from it, thus protecting your cryptocurrency.

Lots of applications have vulnerabilities that hackers can take advantage of to gain access to your device. SIKUR removes that possibility by running the apps through a vetting and remodifying process before they are available to the user. So, you might not be able to play Candy Crush, but you will have a specially designed, more secure version of WhatsApp available to you. The SIKUR team does this for any and all third-party applications to protect the user.

Securely storing information on our devices is one of our strong points,” said CEO Cristiano Iop. “We succeeded with a browser and messaging security. Then we asked, why not do it with cryptocurrency? Cryptos are stored seamlessly and securely on our cloud, without compromising safety.

SIKUR has also proposed that there will be a native Secure App Store that will be available to people who buy the device. Users will be provided with several pre-vetted applications that will be related to the crypto market and blockchain technology. We don’t know exactly what kind of apps will be on the Store because the company has not officially unveiled the app.

Not Just A Crypto-Device

Previous devices that had cryptocurrency functionalities seemed a bit underpowered compared to devices in their price range in the smartphone market. The SIKURPhone does not make any compromises in the specifications department, partly because they’ve partnered with Sony to make their devices.

The XZ1 is based on Sony’s Xperia XZ1. It harbors a 5.2-inch display, a Snapdragon 835, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of built-in storage, a 19-megapixel rear camera, and a 13-megapixel front cam.

There is also a budget-friendly, mid-range device called the XA (based on the Xperia XA2). That nets you a 5.2-inch display, a Snapdragon 630, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a 23-megapixel rear camera, and an 8-megapixel front shooter.

All in all, two solid devices that don’t just handle your cryptocurrency well, but also feature the latest smartphone technology so they don’t feel completely outdated in the coming years.

What is the point?

If you’re considering this as your next device for primary use, I would ask you to reconsider. This device is for suited for business or crypto-traders, people who need to keep their phones ultra-secure.

If these two devices don’t really tickle your fancy, then stay on the lookout for more crypto-supported devices by SIKUR. The company has hinted that they might be partnering with more smartphone manufacturers in the future to port their devices over to SIKUROS, so you might be seeing more and more of these devices show up. This is great news for us crypto-enthusiasts because it means the market for cryptocurrency and blockchain is continuing to develop.
