The blockchain tech continues to evolve every single day and as it is evolving, it is opening up new doors for different industries all across the board, from music, to film, to even the video game industry. Believe it or not blockchain has the power to revolutionize video games, as we know it.
Not long ago, there was a time when Sony and Xbox, both discussed the idea of letting players purchase certain items using their achievement points, which they acquired during playing the games. For those of you who aren’t hard-core gaming nerds, here is a further explanation of achievement points. The development team behind a game would create a list containing a few tasks, a checklist of sorts and upon achieving those tasks; the players were rewarded with achievement points, the more the achievements the more the points.
But soon, both Xbox and Sony scrapped the idea. Why? Because of the weak security, gamers would find ways to hack their hardware and make it appear as if they had to complete their achievements, even for the games they never owned. Thus making it difficult for the support teams of the both the companies to differentiate between legitimate gamers and the hackers.
This is where blockchain tech enters the video game world. And interestingly enough there are games, out right now, using the blockchain tech and providing gaming junkies with a new gaming experience, all the while getting them into cryptos. As most of the games require players to have some cryptos in order to get started. This also includes having a wallet account created to use on the game’s account.
So if you are a blockchain tech enthusiast with a gaming junkies soul, then these video games are for you!
The name really gives it away. EtherWarfare operates on the Ethereum blockchain, and is set in a medieval time, where players go head to head with one another in an attempt to collect different and unique gears. The selling point of the game is that it features a marketplace where players can sell off the gear they don’t want. But what’s in it for them? The game uses Ether as the digital currency, which the players can gain when they sell anything. The players can buy and sell using their Ethereum accounts.
Spells of Genesis
Remember the Pokémon era? When all of us used to have cards and would have battles and trade cards? Well, Spells of Genesis has taken the trading cards game to the next level. It requires players to use their cards in an arcade shooter where they make an attempt on the enemies using magical spells. The cards are categorized on the basis of six different elements,
Each cards element determines the type of spell it will do. The game runs of Bitcoin’s blockchain. The developers, Everdreamsoft, require players to download an additional app along with Spells of Genesis that is Book of Orbs. This was created as a digital bookkeeping notebook so that the players could keep a better track of their cards and the BitCrystals they collected during the game.
This fantasy roleplaying game will make you forget about Sims. EtherQuest contains a variety of unique warriors, which players can collect and further train in order to increase the market value of their specific warrior. Its really obvious that this game is based on the Ethereum blockchain and thus uses Ether as the inter crypto. The cryptocurrency comes into play at the very initial stage of the game, as you need it to purchase a hero. Thus, in order to play any new player must have their own amount of Ether they purchased outside of the game.
After taking over the world, cats are conquering the blockchain world as well. To you relief or disappointment this is not some game of cute kitties brawl. Cryptokitties is basically an Ethereum-based crypto collectable game. In this game players attempt to breed unique, one-of-a-kind digital cats with the added advantage of not having to deal with any of the furballs or cat hair on clothing that comes with a traditional pet. It takes two different cats to create a new one and players have to purchase different cats from the game’s marketplace using Ether. While players all receive one cat when they first join, it still requires two to breed!
Beyond the Void
If you are more of a sci-fi geek then this is just the game for you, Beyond the Void was created for players interested in a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) strategy. In the game, players take charge of the mother ship and work with the army of minion ships in an attempt to conquer the enemy’s mother planet. This too is based on the Ethereum blockchain. The developers of the game require all players to have an account set up on Mist, Ethereum’s official wallet. While other blockchain-based games rely on browsers, Beyond the Void requires players to create an account on Steam and download the client to play the game.
