Your computer may be under attack of miners! Yes, you heard it right. No, we are not exaggerating things. Unethical miners have come up with solutions that use your personal computers, use and abuse their abilities and drain all their energies off. This is done by chrome extensions, various softwares and mechanics disguised in games played during office hours.
The extension or software remains invisible to the user. You will not even know what is going on. Only it will really piss you off. Because, your battery will drain every five minutes of charging it full. Your CPU will be used thoroughly, without you knowing. How convenient for the miners right?
Miners really need all the computing power they can find. As if, posting adverts for renting CPU power, creating mining houses and dedicating big powerhouses of computers to the cause was not enough.
The problem with this is that it works, downloads itself and remains stealth, without getting the user’s consent. There is no reward, for the CPU owners. No consent. And worse yet, it causes damage, pain of recharging and tension for the owner. Having to worry about the battery or the life of the CPU is even worse.
SafeBrowse uses same technology that The Pirate Bay was interested in. It is an in-browser implementation of the CryptoNight mining algorithm. It is used by several CryptoNote-based currencies. These include names such as Monero, Dashcoin, DarkNetCoin and among others.
Whether it may be a software, an extension or you consent-fully letting miners use your computer, it all ruins your PC’s performance. Miners obviously know that. This is abuse and plunder. This criminal activity has been rectified by Chrome, Microsoft, Some anti-virus and malware companies and also, at time white hat hackers. How creative and naughty right to dodge the watchdogs.
But, all of this, in vain if you and me are still unaware and we keep repeating the same actions. Most users will know how to deal with a situation like this.
Some people will think that the battery or the charger is faulty. Some may try to fix the power source. Rarely attention goes to such a possibility. People may or may not know how to fix it. Even after knowing where the fault lies they may remain unsure of how to resolve the issue. Uninstalling the software or disabling the extension may be hot cakes for a tech savvy guy and a hell lot of pain for a person not interested per se.
