Open sourced file sharing and communication platform Nextcloud offers services to blockchain platforms regarding data accessibility and ownership. It integrates with projects such as Storj and Sia, which act as storage providers. Talking to BlockPublisher, the platform explained their functionality as a whole and utility to blockchain based projects.
The project aims to make users the sole owners of their data and provides its services to make data available wherever while also enabling its sync and share between devices. Nextcloud explained:
Nextcloud is storage-agnostic – what it does is make data available wherever it is (from your private NAS or a FTP drive at university or a NFS, Objectstorage etc in a company) through a web ui and mobile apps so you can sync & share them.
The data driven platform also talked about their integration with blockchain platforms such as Sia and Storj. It said:
There are blockchain projects that integrate with Nextcloud, mostly as storage providers, though, like Sia and of course storj.
So what storj.io and Sia do is offer storage to Nextcloud users. Users install the app and have access to their data from their phone etc even though the data is in storj or sia etc
The platform moved to discuss the application of technological aspect to the user bases. This includes all levels of organizations, universities and simple home based usage. The storage facility of projects like Storj and Sia, combined with data utility provided by Nextcloud was termed as “very interesting” by the platform, which continued:
There is an interesting offering for users, I think, on both sides of their technology first, to use it as storage to lower costs. Esp for bigger organizations, like universities for example, a potentially disruptive solution. Then for home users of course – cheap, lots of storage, flexible… very interesting.
The prospect of integration was further reported to be of great utility and of absolute ownership of data and space. The platform explained how users could be able to share and sell off their leftover space in the Storj platform through Nextcloud. It stated:
What is also interesting is that users could share/sell their left-over storage on storj. That could be integrated through Nextcloud as well, though that is a bit harder to do and will be a next step.
