Magic and Bitcoin: Crypto & Blockchain Recap – 22nd December 2018

Here are some of the recent major happenings of the crypto world that you probably need to be aware of.

Incorruptible Information

One of the major features of blockchain is immutability and just recently, a U.S. news article was pushed on the ethereum blockchain, making it incorruptible and immutable for the time to come. Editor of the news site Popula Maria Bustillos announced on Monday that an article that was originally published in Death and Taxes magazine has now been stored on the ethereum blockchain in full. The digital signature of the article has also been recorded on IPFS.

Popula now plans to store each article it produces on the etherem blockchain. She suggested that after each article is published, it will be pushed to ethereum after typically 90 days.

Blockchain offers a plethora of use-cases and using it to store valuable information so that it does not change seems to be a good application of the technology.

Magic and Bitcoin

Scalability has remained to be one of the major issues associated with bitcoin for quite some time. Developments are being made in this world day in and day out. In order to tackle the issue of scalability associated with the bitcoin network, two distinct implementations of a Harry Potter-themed scaling and privacy solution “Mimblewimble” are about to be launched.

Beam and Grin are the two different implementations of the protocol that are going to be launched on December 25 and January 15 respectively.

There are subtle differences between the two implementations. While Grin seems to be largely community-driven, Beam has a sharper business aesthetic.

Let’s see what magic does Mimblewimble bring in regards to scalability.

Ebang Refiles IPO Draft

The crypto mining spearhead Ebang has reportedly refiled its draft IPO prospectus that was presented to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKSE). The company stated that it took a hit in the 3rd quarter of 2018.

The exact detail of the hit that was taken by the company in Q3 2018 is not elaborated. It is stated that the company experienced a significant decrease in gross profit and revenue for the three months that ended on September 30, 2018, as compared to the three months before it that ended on June 30th, 2018. The first six months of 2018, however, proved to be largely beneficial for the company.

It is still not known how much Ebang intends to raise, but it can be inferred that the initially planned offer size might have been tweaked in this redraft.
