Most of us are more familiar with Series of UNFORTUNATE Events, thanks to the Lemony Snicket, which is also, by the way, a really amazing show on Netflix. But things look good because it doesn’t seem Kristoffer Koch in any way related to the Baudelaire hence the good luck.
Kristoffer is a Norwegian electrical engineer whose life took a 360-degree turn back in 2009, not exactly then but that is where it all started from. He came into contact with an innovation called the Bitcoin; a virtual currency that promised to change the financial situation. While writing a master thesis on encryption technology, his course of research is what led him to the point where he got to know about Bitcoin.
For those of you who don’t know, Bitcoin came about in the wake of 2008 financial crisis. Few people thought that this was their calling and hence started investing in it.
Being wooed by what the bitcoin had to offer, Kristoffer saw it as an answer to the recent financial crisis and decided to buy some. He spent just over $26 to acquire 5,000 bitcoins. The bitcoin was not bearing many fruits then so he eventually forgot about it completely. Only four years later, when bitcoin took center stage and garnered audience and media support, was when he remembered about his little investment.
But he couldn’t remember his password or even the amount that he had bought!! But since the reports suggested that the value had soared in value several hundred times, he decided it was worth the effort. So, after spending an entire day trying to work out the all the possible passwords to his wallets, he hit the jackpot!
His mere investment of $26 was now worth a massive $890,000.
All the poking he got from his girlfriend for this investment had now paid off.
After exchanging only, a fifth of what he was holding, he decided to buy a very fashionable apartment in a modern part of Oslo, Norway.
Back the transaction rate was slow so they came in portions. He would wake up to money literally pouring into his bank account every day!
“Every morning I looked at my internet bank account and saw that the account grew,” laughed Kristoffer.
This is what we call sheer luck. Who in world could have thought that 5 years later, their one small action would impact the entire course of this life?
“Not in my wildest dreams could I have imagined that they would have soared like this,” he said as he gave his interview on Norwegian news.
Being the smart guy, he is, upon finding out how much he now had, he didn’t rush to sell it off all at once. He still has a lot and is maintaining his millionaire status.
