Recentlt a new campaign has begun to search for the creator of Bitcoin with pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto.
According to the News, the campaign has gathered devoted and determined followers. Only in the time span of three days, $44,000 has been generated through funds and even people who are supportive of Satoshi’s idea of cryptocurrency have been supporting the campaign.
German Neff from Estonia is leading the campaign as it was his idea to put in a collective effort to reveal the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto. He aims to raise about $ 224,000 to ease the search process and make it as reliable as possible. He has been using Russian crowdfunding site, Boomstarter to raise funds and to run his campaign effectively. The purpose behind using crowdfunding site and raising funds is to use the money for the investigation and search of Satoshi Nakamoto. Neff has clarified that the funds will be ultimately used to pay investigators and detectives all over world to find traces and hints of Satoshi Nakamoto. The news also suggest that detectives particularly from Japan, New York, London, and Russia will be acquired to hunt down Satoshi.
On the crowdfunding site, Neff has been sharing the reasons and his workings on the search of Satoshi’s identity up till now. He has been collecting the information and data related to Satoshi for almost 3 years. He has also been writing to many detective agencies and discussing with costings of the procedure. He has also raised the stakes by offering people a week tour to the place where Satoshi lived, to motivate people even more for helping him out.
Regarding the search, Neff told that exposure of Satoshi’s identity is inevitable. He said:
It’s about time we found Satoshi Nakamoto…….Before the new economy gained momentum and until Bitcoin did not cost nearly $20.000, digital money could have been called ‘geek pampering.’ The appearance of Bitcoin is widely compared to supernova explosion. And after one has happened, some uncertainty started to take place.”
He further added that this bold step was taken to know bitcoin and the vision behind it much better than it is at the moment. He shared a lot of question related to bitcoin and describes the confirmed answers of them’s as primary reason to reveal Satoshi’s identity. He said:
Satoshi needs to be found. And it is not just a trite curiosity. Now the market is on a fragile balance; for the further development of cryptocurrency, we need to know who created crypto and why. Was it really an enthusiast who gave the world an independent currency or was it a group of people pursuing scientific or purely selfish purposes? Or perhaps Bitcoin is an invention of a large company or an IT giant that decided to take a new direction? Can Bitcoin be the state invention, created with the purpose to control all transactions? There are many assumptions as to who might be behind this, but neither theory has been confirmed.
On the other hand, Boomstarter page also shared its reasons behind supporting the initiative. Stating itself as a supporter of cryptocurrency, Boomstarter claims that it is necessary to know that cryptocurrency is not a fraud. Page further elaborates the need of knowing people who can alter the market overnight and almost destroy the cryptocurrency. The article stated:
We, the international group of crypto-enthusiasts #Findsatoshi…..are initiating an international search for the creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto. The world needs to be sure that the cryptocurrency is not a global fraud. We, the fans of cryptocurrencies who sincerely believe in the ideals behind the digital money, should know who has more than 1 million coins in their wallet. And who could overthrow the market overnight, almost destroying it. At least one confirmed fact would be enough. There’s just too much risk for a new economic paradigm.
The group of cryptocurrency supporters participating in the campaign also explained their concerns that led them to take part in the campaign. According to them, the future of cryptocurrency matters and they can’t let it go off without knowing it. They justified their right to know Satoshi by saying:
Let’s imagine that Satoshi decides to leave all the passwords from the purse to his descendants. Will they not want to sell them?……We, the crypto-enthusiasts, are obliged to find out the truth in order to exist peacefully in this environment. Without the fear that tomorrow a man will come out from behind the curtains announcing that the circus is over and then will disappear again. We pay the cryptocurrency world with our faith and we have the right to know the identity of Satoshi.
In the past, many attempts have made to locate or expose the identity of Satoshi but all went in vain. Top digital publications have made a big fuss about uncovering Satoshi but later they both saw embarrassment and disappointment due to failure. What awaits now even before the investigation starts is the response of Satoshi himself on these activities and questions. But unfortunately, like Satoshi’s identity, his response remains a mystery too at the moment.
