Here Are The Top Contenders Believed To Be Bitcoin Founder Satoshi Nakamoto

Satoshi Nakamoto, the famed creator of the legendary cryptocurrency,  Bitcoin has been a mystery ever since the crypto legend first made its debut in 2009. Since then crypto fans the world over have been on the hunt for his/her/their real identity and the results are interesting!

Till we know for sure, here are some of the best guesses the crypto community has made yet;

Dorian Nakamoto

Dorian Nakamoto is the top contender, although it may partly because of the shared surname. In an article with Newsweek, writer Leah Goodman claimed that the fact that Nakamoto had been a systems engineer on government defense projects. According to Goodman, he said,  “I am no longer involved in that and I cannot discuss it. It’s been turned over to other people. They are in charge of it now. I no longer have any connection.” However, when interviewed again, he denied any affiliation with Bitcoin and stated that he was not even aware of its existence before the controversy.

Hal Finney

Being the second person in the history of the cryptoworld  to run a Bitcoin node makes Hal Finney a celebrity in his own right. He is credited with making breakthrough improvements in the blockchain bug reports and when a journalist at Forbes discovered that Finney’s handwriting was the closest to illusive founder, the fire was further fueled. However, Hal was diagnosed with ALS and in an interview he said, “My body began to fail. I slurred my speech, lost strength in my hands, and my legs were slow to recover. In August, 2009, I was given the diagnosis of ALS, also called Lou Gehrig’s disease, after the famous baseball player who got it.” Hal has since then been cryopreserved.

Nick Szabo 

Nick Szabo has been in on the debate around decentralized currency for a long time and is one of the popular choices for conspiracy theorists due to his vast knowledge of the subject. A philosopher by profession, his published paper titled, “bit gold” also raised a lot of red flags. However, Szabo has denied any affiliation with Satoshi Nakamoto.

John Nash

Considered one of the finest mathematicians of our time, John Nash was believed to have been one of the pioneers of crypto technology while some are certain that he is Satoshi Nakamoto. Most well-known after the commercial success of the 2001 Oscar-winning hit “A Beautiful Mind” which is based on Nash’s life. He is a strong contender for the role since he was an outspoken critic of Keynesian economics like most Bitcoiners.

Vili Lehdonvirta

Finnish economist, Vili Lehdonvirta  is another popular candidate famed to be the illusive creator of Bitcoin. In an article by The New Yorker, it was assumed that Lehdonvirta  was Nakamoto, a claim which he later denied.

One of the most popular conspiracy theories is still the idea that  Satoshi Nakamoto is a psudenym for the NSA or any other government agency. But not everyone agrees!
