For how long can we keep telling people that Bitcoin and the likes of it are safe? How long will we blatantly lie when people shove things like Mt Gox in our face? How many more lies??
Recently to add fuel to the raging debate between the two sides of a coin, the pro and against bitcoin, the against party has it coming strong because something that we hate has happened to Cryptopia. This is the perfect thing that the naysayers would rub in our face. It’s the perfect I told you so moment for them!
Cryptopia the New Zealand cryptocurrency exchange which reported a security breach earlier this month has yet again been a victim of these vicious hackers. The report says that over 17 thousand wallets were drained of funds on January 28, 2019. To further crush us, the hack went on for a day and for the entire time, they couldn’t find a way to make it stop. WOW.
Previously the exchange platform lost around 1,675 ETH which is close to 180k. Before this, 5,240 wallets were affected were hit by attackers again.
This is what the report had to say:
“Initially it wasn’t clear whether this might be Cryptopia securing their remaining funds. But by 9:50 pm this evening, we got our confirmation that this was indeed the same thief. At that time, the incoming transfers stopped and the combined funds were moved into the address, the same wallet that currently stores the other stolen Cryptopia funds.”
In the exchange’s defense, they do not have control over their Ethereum wallets’ private keys and the hacker is in control. All coins deposited in the wallets will end up with the hacker until he is caught. So be careful for the next few days and be sure not to trade until the culprit has been caught.
What has happened to the Bitcoin world? Such callousness?
Cryptocurrency and exchanges need to get their attack together. And in case any anti-Bitcoin boy haughtily walks towards you, all you need to tell them is that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. And that is definitely what’s happening to Bitcoin as well!
