Eric Van MiltenBurg, the senior vice president of business operations at Ripple showed his devotion to the cause saying:
We’re honored to be a part of Raising Malawi’s amazing work with some of the world’s most under served children and are grateful to our investors at Sound Ventures for making the introduction to us and this important cause.
Madonna already has some sentiments attached to Malawi, as she had done a lot of charity work for the country. The 60 year old singing legend adopted four children from Malawi and founded “Raising Malawi” in 2006 to address poverty and hardship endured by Malawi’s orphans and vulnerable children. She also launched a children’s wing at a hospital in Malawi last year.
Despite all efforts made, the singer is very much hopeful and is keen towards making the lives of Malawians better. She said:
We have made great progress and I will not stop fighting until every child is able to go to school.
The singer also told the associated press that she and the fundraisers are teaming up with Facebook for the noble cause. The fundraising will continue from Monday to August 31. The philanthropist’s raised money that would be used to improve the education and healthcare provision throughout the country. Ripple vows that it would double the amount of all public donation.
I have an unwavering commitment to providing vulnerable children with a loving home. For my birthday, I can think of no better gift than connecting my global family with this beautiful country and the children who need our help most. Every dollar raised will go directly to meals, schools, uniforms and healthcare. I want to come together with my friends, fans and supporters to change the lives of Malawian children and let them know they are nurtured, protected and loved. Through their generous commitment to this organization, Ripple will match each dollar donated to this campaign. Madonna
The team of Ripple is also devoted to the cause and are keen towards collecting donations and helping children in Malawi, they explained their sentiment on their website stating that, “Ripple and its executive team care deeply about giving back and eliminating barriers that keep marginalized populations from being a part of our global community. This means fostering programs for financial inclusion, improving access to fundamental human services, empowering teachers and supporting primary education, promoting environmental literacy and conservation. This recent donation to Raising Malawi is just one such example of how we invest in causes that exemplify this philosophy.”
Facebook, however is providing the main platform for the collections of donations where they claim that they don’t demand any kind of transaction fee. According to the donations page, “The fundraising utilizes Facebook’s charitable giving tools, thaat charge no processing fees, meaning 100% of every contribution goes directly to Raising Malawi’s work at ‘Home of Hope’ orphanage, located in a rural, high-need area of Malawi. Also, the international payment firm Ripple has announced it will be matching all donations to Madonna’s fundraiser. ”
Other crypto charity projects
Crypto companies have almost taken over every field there exists which involves fiat currency. The domain of charity doesn’t lag behind. There are startups and website charities which collect funds and charity from people all around the world via their platform and send it to the deserving people. Such projects include platforms like Cryptocharityfund, Pineapplefund and Aidcoin to name a few.
A few months back, the CEO of Coinbase also unveiled a fund of his own GiveCrypto.org, which foucussed on collecting funds for the needy. The CEO himself donated $1 million to his charity and showed his sentiment saying:
People who invested early in crypto have amassed an enormous amount of wealth in a relatively short amount of time. Yet the reputation of the crypto community has been dominated by images of ‘bros in Lambos,’ whose antics get a lot of attention. This doesn’t represent the best of our community. Most people I respect and know in the crypto ecosystem believe we have a responsibility to help this technology reach a much wider audience.
He emphasized on how he was inspired by the acts of charity from crypto community, including Ripple donating millions in XRP to schools, the Pineapple Fund and OMG giving $1 million to GiveDirectly — all of which he said shows that crypto can have a positive impact worldwide.
