Bitcoin, previously associated with dark web and all things corrupt, did let go of that label and emerged in a completely different light last year. But it seems that the dark past is not letting go that easily.
Just like every crazy ex you dated that you don’t want to associate with, so much so that you want to go full blown Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind on them. Dark web and Bitcoin has a bad history with each other. And people are really worried.
The person who seems to be most disturbed by this is Bill Gates, the philanthropist, and former chief executive of Microsoft. He is very much worried about the crypto craze and is concerned about the anonymity perks saying that the technology has “caused deaths in a fairly direct way”.
According to him, cryptocurrency is used to buy drugs which have caused deaths in a fairly direct way.
Not only is he bothered by the increased use of drugs due to this veiled currency but also thinks that the lack of control is the reason why it’s a bad idea to be investing in this sector.
“I think the speculative wave around ICOs and cryptocurrencies is super risky”.
But he is not all bad news, you guys. Bill Gates is positive about the overall direction this industry is taking, rejecting the negative consequences it could have on the rising automation for the wide economy.
Unfortunately, Bill Gates is not the only one who views bitcoin as ‘glass half empty’, Steve Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple does too. Earlier this year he revealed that he had lost seven bitcoins to a scammer.
Steve cited the incident with a heavy heart saying;
“Somebody bought them from me online through a credit card, and they canceled the credit card payment,” he told a conference in India. “It was that easy. And it was from a stolen credit card number, so you can never get it back.”
We feel sorry for you Steve. We really do.
But, we think it’s rather harsh of you to have a negative view of bitcoin just because you weren’t careful about yours. You can’t blame the thief for stealing if you made it that accessible for him, now can you?
Whereas concerns of our tech pioneer Bill Gates are concerned, we can’t really say anything. Before the advent of bitcoins, people were indulging and drugs and people were dying. If anyone wants to do any of that they will find a way out for themselves regardless of cryptocurrency. People always find a way and you can’t stop them.
What do you think about what Bill Gates had to say? Do you agree with him or not?
